My Music:
I'm far from being any sort of audiofile. I've given up on trying to stay current. I dig 1950's Doo ****. 1960's Motown. 1970's Soul. 1980's Metal. 1990's Pre-grunge "alternative". I'm over punk and most contemporary music gives me a headache....
I never had any interest in baking, cooking, or spending any time whatsoever in the kitchen until Jimbo entered my life. When we began planning our wedding we decided to cut corners financially in any and every way we could. One way I decided to do that was by making our own wedding cake, or wedding cupcakes rather.
I decided to take this task on full force as both a new hobby and a challenge and I more or less started from scratch.
I'm a finicky graphic designer and thus I'm incredibly particular about how my cupcakes looked and tasted. I wouldn't settle for a Duncan Hines box mix. I wanted them to be fun, beautiful, memorable, tasty, and spectacular.
I started with rigorous cupcake experimentation. I got recipes from such sources as Martha Stewart Online, The Cupcake Blog and my new favorite book, A Baker's Field Guide to Cupcakes: Deliciously Decorated Crowd Pleasers for Parties and Holidays by Dede Wilson.
When all was said and done I finally settled on 3 recipes. Chocolate/chocloate chip with Oreo cream frosting, Red velvet with cream cheese frosting, and vegan chocolate with peanut butter frosting. Of course I wasn't satisfied with that. I decided to decorate them in eyeballs, ghouls and spiders. (Did I mention I had a Halloween Wedding?)
It was a ton of work but everything went swimmingly. Couldn't have asked for anything more.
And now, oddly enough, I want to do more. My new hubby never would have thought I'd enjoy creating in the kitchen.
With this blog I plan to document my successes and failures in hopes that I will receive helpful critiques and ideas as well as assess my own progress.
Wish me luck!
Claudean's wedding cupcakes were 100% delightful, and I pity those of you who have not had an opportunity to taste her greatness.
