    Weekend fun

    Monday, February 25, 2008, 09:38 AM [General]

I finished (mostly finished) some projects this weekend, so it was time to move on the next big thing! I went to Hobby Loby and bought some fun novelty yarn (on sale!). Those fluffy yarns with the bumps and colors and all are so fun to knit up, but I think they are wildly impractical for most things. I'm going to make plushies out of them! I've got a great start on the first one; we'll see how it turns out.

Also, I went shopping for a dollhouse kit. I like the inexpensive ones, like $30-60 or so, because they're small and I don't have all the pressure of needing to get it "right" because I spent so much money. But no luck. Miniatures are kind of out of vogue right now, probably waiting for some new product to kick them into high gear.

I also meant to get some more pictures to post; costumes and costume details, and pictures of my old Singer for Jenny. Well, you'll have to wait, sorry!

    New knitting project

    Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 10:57 AM [General]

I'm almost finished with my vest I've been working on. At least, all the knitting is finished, I just need to finish sewing up the sides and weaving in all the loose ends. So of course, it's time to start something new, yes, just before I finish the first project.

I wanted to try some colorwork. I found another vest pattern, but the colorwork is fairly involved, and the needle size is a three. So before i killed myself by making that my first colorwork project, I pulled back and found an easy hat. Much better for a first project.

I'll post pictures when I'm finished!

    Bunny and Squirrel

    Thursday, February 14, 2008, 12:45 PM [General]

These came together so quickly! I did each in one night. Better than just sitting around and watching TV. Now I can get back to finishing my vest!

Natually, I can't follow directions exactly; I always have to change something. The stripes on the squirrel were supposed to be drawn on with a pencil, but I embroidered them on instead. And I used a french knot as the center of the flower, and as the way to attach the flower, instead of using glue. The bunny has blue eyes.

I've been looking through a copy of Plush You! now, and boy, do I have all kinds of crazy ideas now!

    Cute!

    Monday, February 11, 2008, 07:11 AM [General]

I bought The Cute Book a few weeks ago, and finally went out to buy stuff so I could try a couple of the projects. Once I actually do some of the projects, I can post some pictures.

I also went out trying to find yarn for a couple of new knitting projects I'm almost ready to start, but I'm not sure what I'm doing. I hate to spend too much on the one: it's a Fair Isle pattern, and I'd hate to spend $100 on the yarn, only to mess up the final product. Maybe I'm being too ambititous. Anyone out there know of an easy Fair Isle project to start with?

    Costuming

    Thursday, February 7, 2008, 12:35 PM [General]

Most of the sewing I do is for the groups I dance with, so I'm uploading a few pictures from our Boho Dance troup. It's a Summer of Love theme, and we dance to music from the late 60s, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. We dance with veils, poi, tambourines and hula hoop.

The costumes are all hippie-esque. Peggy found us some nice sari fabric with a paisley pattern that we all used for the top, and we all modified the jeans into bell-bottoms. I personally don't remember the 60s, but I don't think an 80s dance group isn't as much fun. Some people would probably beg to differ.

We tie-died the silk veils using rainbow colors. I think they turned out pretty nicely also.

The pictures aren't great with the shade and everything, but I'm still looking for the ones we did in Peggy's back yard.
