I believe i read about the saying in the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho years ago. The book is about reaching for your dreams. I was so impressed with it that i even painted "there are diamonds in your own backyard" on one of my doors in the kitchen. I had glued gems in the spot where the words had been painted. I think sometimes we forget that we can find riches right where we are now - we can work with what we have. Perhaps another similar saying is Bloom where you are Planted. Often when i look through books written by other artists i think "Gee, i wish i could paint/collage/draw/sculpt like that!" Then i try to be like them and the efforts end in failure. Why? Because i'm trying to be something i'm not. The diamonds truly exist in my own backyard. I ask myself, "Well, what are you good at?" then in my mind i begin to itemize what my talents and strengths are. The juice begins to course through my body again and i create anew!
