    Cold germs all around

Thursday, July 3, 2008, 11:24 AM EST [General]

DH & DD#1 are sick.  I'm getting over my chest cold and I can't really be upset that the other 2 are sick.  Afterall they probably got it from me.  And I probably got it from the errant shopping cart or doorknob while out.  Where ever it came from it's pretty bad and I hope none of you are suffering with it.

It's been too long since I've scrapbooked.  I have probably a half dozen other things I should/could be doing like folding laundry, taking out the trash, cleaning out the fridge, sweeping the floor, working out.  All these things should take priority right now.  But ask me what I want to do right now: scrapbook.  If I thought I had time before DD#2 wakes up I'd hustle my butt to it.  Actually I'd probably workout first just to get that out of the way but then I'd be in the studio working on a few projects I've got piling up in there.  To name a few: QuicKutz monthly swap recipe page, #2's first-year July calendar page, Welcome to the World layout of #2.  My desktop is invisible under the stack of stuff "to be done."

Well, I guess I've got a few more minutes before the benevolent dictator wakes up.  I'm off to scrap.  If I actually get anything done I'll post pictures later.

    Success

Sunday, June 29, 2008, 03:53 PM EST [General]

Surgery was a success!  My large patient is not a very good patient.  He's trying to do things he should not be doing because he thinks he can.  He can't.  In reality it's a good thing that he over estimates his capabilities, that translates to greatness in the grand scheme of things and it's not a trait I've overlooked in him.  And I admit I've noticed him relying on me a little bit here and there-sometimes at the most inopportune times.  "Hon, are you in the middle of something?"  But I can't tell you how great it is to have him here hanging out with the littlest one.  They're on the couch next to me right now.

But the other side of the coin is that it appears he's coming down with my chest cold.  Before you start feeling too bad for him remember this: he's off from work for the next 2 weeks anyway and he can take all the good meds that, as a breastfeeding mom, I couldn't.

    Happy Friday!

Friday, June 27, 2008, 09:57 AM EST [General]

    Good News/Bad News

Today is surgery day.  The good thing is that Brian gets his knee fixed but the bad news is that it requires surgery.  He's not allowed to be left alone at all today.  I'm picking him up in an hour and a half.  Hopefully he won't be a difficult post-op'er.  Because honestly I'm just not up for it right now.

On a happier note, today is Sweet Treat Day!  No sweets during the week = a sweet treat for me and Savy on Fridays.  It's our new summer tradition.  Last week we went to Ben & Jerry's, she LOVED the bean bag chairs.  This week we found individual size cartons of B&J's at the grocery store that even come with a wooden spoon inside.  They are $1 and let's be realistics Mommas, how else can  you spend $1 and get $1M worth of enjoyment?  Plus, the fact that it's 1/4 the size of a regular carton of B&J's it won't wreck my hips.  And if that's not enough the wooden spoon is totally reminding me of the $.50 ice creams we used to get from the cafeteria after school in elementary school!  Reallly it's a dollar well spent.

Hope y'all are having a happy Friday too.

Let's hear it for the boy (again)!!

Friday, June 27, 2008, 09:45 AM EST [General]

Brian found my camera cable!  The sad thing is that it was hiding in plain sight right next to the computer.  Apparently Sick Becky is not so much Perceptive Becky.  Well, Brian came home early and found it, give that man a prize!!  So now I'm in my happy place.  Photos to play with, some great ones that I'd already forgotten about.  Both girls are in bed and Brian is playing with a new XBox game so I've got time to play for a little bit.  Here are some of the good ones I didn't realize I'd stashed away on the memory card:

S doing a little Cardio Party.  She loves that the instructors switch out and she gets to workout with all of them.  Her favorite part: Allie, of course.

This was from a kit that Aunt M gave S.  Thanks M, she LOVES it.  This is exactly the kind of project she adores.

Now culinarily speaking it's been quite a month for us.  The first one is a spontaneous morning of special pancakes (chocolate, chocolate chips, strawberries and homemade fresh whipped cream).  The second is S sucking the juice out of a lemon.  She'd had a lime first and no, she's not making an "Ooo this is tart!" face, it's more, "Ooo this is good!"  Crazy kid.  Can you say, "future margarita fan?"  The last is her enjoying our Father's Day cookie, Baci Di Dama ("Ladie Kisses") from the Martha Stewart Cookie recipe book.  It's basically chocolate merangues with almonds inside, then sandwiched with heavenly, drippy chocolate ganache.  I think we ate most of them before the ganache even cooled.  Like I said, heavenly, drippy.  The recipe makes a very small batch, by the time you sandwich them you've got a dozen.  But it's so worth it-way different than a store-bought merangue.  And really this is one of those things that you don't want a lot of, just a delicate bit is perfect.  Unless you're B.

I took these because it so happens they have coordinating outfits but it blends in so much with the chair that it's not obvious.  I think it's good though because everything fades out but their expressions.

I think the shirt says it all.

    Shop Friday, Crop Saturday

Friday, June 20, 2008, 10:10 PM EST [General]

I'm slightly late tonight.  It's 9:40-ish because DH came home from a week of working out of town and realized he'd missed out on a fun day.  I took the DD's to Ben & Jerry's and since #1 talked about it all week DH wanted some too.  So I went back for a second time after the girls went to bed.  Trouble is that it's right next to the movie theater so between parking and waiting in line it was late when I got back.

Now to the good stuff.  I spent all day shopping.  Granted, a good amount of time was spent on getting a new wardrobe for #1 (growth spurt and starting school soon).  But we also hit A.C. Moore which is going out of business in our town so we found a few goodies I'd been holding off on.  They had stuff 40-70% off so I didn't feel too terribly bad.  Plus I rationalized that picking up a few sheets of paper for #1 will keep her occupied better than other ways I could spend like $1.25 so...  I had the chance to get the Making Memories grommet setter but I figured I would use it once and stash it away, never to be seen again.  Who knows, it could end up that they release some really cool new thing to go with it and then I'll regret not getting it but more than likely not.

What else, what else...I got an album to put the recipe pages into from my QuicKutz club but I'll have to add refill pages before I can get them all in.  I got a library binder for my 4x4's.

DH has just informed me that my random thoughts are to be brought to an end.  It's bedtime.
