Wool Food
I've been making lots and lots of food lately - here are a couple of pics:
Tamago nigiri, maguro nigiri, tuna roll, carrot roll.
Pita pocket with falafel, green beans, peas, and a chicken drumstick. As soon as I can manage the time to take photos of the others I'll post them. LOL, it's a little hard to find a free hand sometimes with four kids!
Easter Eggs
I decided to have a little fun when I was dyeing Easter eggs with the kids on Saturday. I batiked (kind of) the eggs using a white crayon for resist and overdyed with just the three primary colors. Not the fanciest stuff in the world, but it was fun! The colors in the photos are off, so for reference, the two eggs on the right are purple in the main color.
Yarn Fix!
Woohoo, I got my co-op order of wool yarn yesterday. I've been waiting for this for more than a month, and let me tell you, I'm not dissappointed!
Cornucopia
This yarn: (which, incidentally is gorgeous Gaia Organic wool dyed in the Cornucopia colorway by Over the Moon)
became these longies (wool pants used to cover a cloth diaper):
but alas, my little boy was born so huge that he didn't fit into them. So I gritted my teeth, crossed my fingers, and frogged the yarn. Then I crocheted up a pair of shorties, which work superbly as an overnight cover.
One the whole, I spent about five hours working with this yarn. If I was to recommend a yarn to spend five hours with, it would definitely be this.
Yarn Addiction
I came online tonight with the task of buying some solid colored wool yarn that I can't get locally. Now, two hours later, I've found myself sitting here with my trigger finger poised over the "Add to Cart" button and the taste of indecision in my mouth. I've already completed my errand, but then I found myself browsing some of the yummiest yarn on the web. To buy or not to buy, that is the question. There are a thousand reasons for either side. I tried not to think of the yarn that packs my three shelf cabinet (or the top of the coat closet, or the bin in the tv room, and don't forget my WIP bag). I tried not to think about the fact that my plate is about as full as it can get at the moment, and it would be another year at least before I could use it. Despite all of that, I really do need it...don't I?
Take for instance, this gorgeous wool/cashmere blend from Plumknit Yarn Supply. Just think of how lovely that would be to work with. So soft and silky, and a beautiful colorway to boot.
Or, how about this intriguing Sea Silk yarn from EllieBelly? It's spun from silk (yum) and seacell, a fiber made from seaweed. As if that isn't cool enough, it's good for your skin. Maybe I should go ahead and buy that. Oh, wait, I guess I should have an idea of what I would make with it first, huh?
Now, I normally like my yarn in a three or more ply, but this yarn just looks so soft and squishy, it's almost as if it is calling to me. Hmmm, maybe I should buy enough to make a huge pile and just dive in.
I may need help. Is there a Yarn Lover's Anonymous out there anywhere?
