    Crafty Ink

Thursday, May 29, 2008, 05:52 PM EST [General]

I love crafting and I love tattoos, but I don’t plan on mixing the two. I came across a few crafty tats online.

This great blog entry on Lionbrand. The tattoo recipient is knitting while getting a knitting tattoo. I love it.

     Here’s the tattoo.

Kelly Helene’s sewing machine tattoo found on Flickr.

My birthday's coming up. Maybe a crafty tattoo is in my future. What craft are you willing to have inked?

    Free digital

Thursday, May 29, 2008, 04:53 PM EST [Scrapbooking]

I subscribe to the Memory Maker’s e-mail newsletter. This week they featured a few really cool digital kits. I can’t draw to save my life, so I love how digital kits make my pages look.

I love this Bohemian Summer design by Michelle Coleman. You can download the kit here.

I was even more excited to find out that MM has an entire page devoted to free digital downloads. You can find them here

(Note: Isn’t the expression “I can’t ______ to save my life” odd? When would the ability to draw, or sing, or dance actually save my life?)

Big and Bold in Tiny Spaces

Thursday, May 22, 2008, 11:57 AM EST [in my life]

My husband and I had a house built a few years ago. Although we've lived in the house for more than two years, we just painted the first room. We had to wait one year for things to settle, and we could repair cracks, nail pops and what not.

I don't know why we didn't paint the second year. Although I think we're still recovering from a previous choice of paint color. Note: Crab Bisque and Shrimp Toast may be delicious when served in a restaurant, but not so tasty when applied to your walls. We chose various pastels—lots of sage, heather and buttercream—to cover this painting fiasco. We loved the warmth this palette created.

So, I was a little surprised when we both choose Olympic's rich, dark colors for the new house.

We started small to see how well we liked this palette. Now that it's on the walls, all of my fears are assuaged, but, I don't really have a reason to spend that much time in the guest bathroom. Although I veer from paint colors named after food, I like the look of this Sautéed Mushroom.

I really love how the Calvary blue makes my favorite wall hanging pop.

Next up: Painting the kitchen walls in Brick Dust red. Dare we be so bold?

Have you ever stepped out of your comfort zone when it comes to color? What were the results?

To vote or not to vote

Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 03:26 PM EST [General]

Yesterday, Kentucky held its presidential primary and American Idol held its final. So there were plenty of opportunities to vote and to teach my kids about the importance of voting. However, this wasn't the best election to use as an example. My question: If you don't feel strongly about one candidate or another, even after you've taken numerous internet quizzes, should you still vote?

And, because so many people asked me who I voted for, I'll tell you...I voted for David. :)

    Alpha Cable Scarf

    Tuesday, May 20, 2008, 01:35 PM EST [knitting/crochet]

I meant to blog about this scarf separately in this blog, but it's just as easy to link to my other blog, KnitsLikeaGirl. I haven't worked on this scarf in days. I enjoyed working on it, but now I can't seem to pick it up again. How do you motivate yourself to finish a project?
