Another First-Time Blogger

I'm Pam, and I'm new to blogging, but I love arts & crafts. I've made many things with all sorts of stuff. I've always loved to draw, and my grandmother taught me needlework when I was a kid--knitting, crocheting, embroidering, etc. When I was a kid, I made all sorts of sweaters, embroidered my denims, made pillows, whatever. My friends and I were also into macrame (OK, I'm dating myself), beading, whatever we liked. I went to college and got a bachelor's degree in fine arts. I worked in photography and matting/framing, eventually getting a master's degree in arts administration. I worked for the college office, an art gallery, a radio station, a couple local museums, whatever fit into my schedule that was arts related. I did a year of coursework in art history, then got a fabulous job as an editor working on art instruction books. I've worked at publishing art instruction books for nearly 14 years, and it's a wonderful fit for me. As for my personal craftivity, I knit or crochet nearly every night, and I have lots of finished projects that my family uses every day--throws, pillows, sweaters, vests, scarves, hats, potholders, purses, toys, etc. I'll try to post pics of them when I get a chance, and though I'm proud of the things I make, I never thought of this as something I needed to share online--I just like it, and it reminds me of my grandma (gone many years, but I still miss her). It keeps me from snacking in front of the TV at night, and nothing (except a hug from my kids) makes me feel more warm and secure than snuggling up in one of my own creations. I've given handmade gifts to just about every family member, and I've donated projects for folks who need warm things. I volunteer at my kids' school in many ways, including donating yarn to the knitting/sewing club when I clean out my stash. Well, this is getting pretty long, so I'll stop for now. Don't know when I'll have time to get back to this, but I'll try to post another blog soon!
