    Super Bowl Crafting

Dear Patriots: Too bad you lost. But thank you for making my weekend extra-crafty.

On Saturday, I realized the television event of the universe was looming and I had no knitting. (I finished a scarf and beret last week and had been mulling what to do next.) I have trouble just watching TV, unless it is one of my favorite shows. I definitely need something to do during sporting events, because no matter how interested I am (and I was interested in seeing the Patriots win) I tend to doze off. Even when I am watching with zealous fans!

So I settled on a project -- a capelet I plan to finish for Easter -- went to the yarn store and got some really nice yarn, a silk-soy-wool blend by Reynolds that cost more than I wanted to spend (typical). I was all set for Sunday night. I knitted through the first half.

The game also allowed me to work all Sunday afternoon on my needlepoint horse. Usually I feel a little guilty crafting away all Sunday, when there is ironing, cleaning, etc, to catch up on. But everybody (in my house and, I imagined, across the nation) was watching the pregame stuff or just otherwise goofing off, snacking, etc, in anticipation of the game. So I sat in front of the pregame stuff too, with my horse.

So thank you, Patriots. You are probably feeling low right now, so tell yourselves this: you can't be perfect all the time. For example, sections of my horse look a little wacky because I followed the chart wrong. Also, I definitely missed an increase on my capelet while you were stinking up the field. I just say, I'm not perfect. Life goes on.
