Why is scrapbooking so important to you?

Sunday, November 23, 2008, 02:53 PM CST [General]

I was reviewing SCRAPSCENE's blog post today and they asked "why is scrapbooking so important to you? my answer got a little windy...

You pose this question after a full 14 hours of shopping and cropping with my favorite Gotta Scrap girlfriends...you know you only have to attend to be a friend...! scrapping and socializing can be synonomous when you are at a crop. scrapping opens up my world and takes me to new places both mentally and physically. when i arrive at a new place i already have something in common with everyone else there.i am accepted and part of a family. i am afterall an empty nester and scrapping adds to my family.

Scrapbooking is important to me because it allows me to persue my creativity in many forms with so many new friends. it has become my passion. it has renewed me.i've always had a creative side but it has been reborn. thank you for the chance to express this and to be entered into the giveaway. ms.cheryl

This was actually my effort at keeping it short.i drove 3 hours before and after my 14 hours of shopping and cropping so i had been up and on the go for 20 hours and i had a BLAST. it was so worth it to visit with my friends at GOTTA SCRAP in Rockwall,Texas. they are the sweetest and and thier staff don't wait on you they serve you. as i picked out paper and goodies and my basket would begin to get a little awkward to carry they would take my goodies and start me a stack at the counter ( just like at a clothing store ) and add to it as i shopped. while cropping they circulate to help you find other items you decide you need while your creative juices are flowing. one of the ladies had to run an errand to pick up some supplies and came back with a package of stickers ( not on hand at thier store ) from another store to help me with my project. i love these ladies. they are the best.they run thier bussiness different from any other scrapping store i've ever been in. you are treated like a friend from the moment you enter the store.i know them as Patti and D'uan but they also answer to Lucy and Ethel.i would have never met them if it hadn't been for scrapbooking.that would have been such a great loss.i now know people from Canada to Texas because of scrapbooking.what a thrill!!!

    yard sale treasures

Wednesday, October 15, 2008, 02:09 PM CST [General]

i had a blast with my best friend this past weekend. we went to several yard sales and got sooooo lucky. i got a junior scrabble game for $1... all those sweet little blue cardboard squares of alphas! i got a table lamp for $2 but didn't like the shade and planned on throwing it away BUT instead i cut 1/3 of it away from top to bottom and now my lamp sits close to the wall and out of my way for crafting. and now i get to decorate the shade any way i want knowing i can't mess it up! i got a 1942 dictionary for $1.50 so i can learn to make cute dictionary flowers. i lucked up on 4 wallpaper sample books all for a grand total of $1. now i just need to know if i have to prep that kind of paper in any special way before i use it or not. i got a RCA VICTOR vinyl album for $1. the whole thing is burgundy. it will make an awesome cover for a scrapbook. i got an old school desk for $2. it's the kind used in elementary school with the flat top and storage underneath. it's going on my patio for "SPECIAL DELIVERIES" from mail to UPS etc. it will place the boxes high enough that i can see them from my kitchen window and not actually walk outside to know if i got a package. and for .60 i got a glass storage jar with the attached lid and a cute little green bird to watch me craft at my table. i had so much fun and spent the day with my best friend all for $9.10. the whole day was PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The GREAT AMERICAN SCRAPBOOK CONVENTION

Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 07:34 PM CST [General]

i don't know what was more fun ... the volunteering or the classes. i registered for the classes i without -a -doubt did not want to miss and i volunteered for "surprise me" classes. you don't have any choice which class you volunteer in so after you sign up to volunteer you get SURPRISED. thats part of the fun. i was with crystal jeffrey rieger and stacey ethridge. they are both fun and energetic. i took classes that could teach me techniqes i didn't feel comfortable with and they all met my expectations. i worked with metal... i had't a clue about that before the class. i worked with canvas in a class by Quick Quotes...they are awesome. this year they didn't allow rolling totes on the shopping floor and i heard a lot of squawking about it but most shows don't allow them so why fuss...go with the flow. i used a smaller bag that held all my supplies and had plenty of room for class kits picked up throughout the day. the other complaint that can be heard many times a day is that there isn't enough room at each table in the classes...deal with it! know ahead of time there will be three people to a table and it will be tight... embrace it...enjoy it...you are there to have FUN and learn as much as you can. take a positive attitude and a sweater!!!!
