My Inspirations: I once watched a chef carve a swan from a three hundred pound block of ice. As he was working, I marveled at his ability to know where to cut. I asked him how he did it and he told me that he was cutting away all the ice that did not look like swan. The ability to see the finished product in basic materials and to do it three dimensionally, is inspirational to me.

    Crafts for kids

One of my greatest pleasures, as a grandfather is doing crafts projects with my three and a half year old granddaughter. She is bright and active and loves to be creative. I am running out of ideas for simple things to do creatively with her. She loves doing paper products with glue sticks, sparkles, paper punches etc. Her grandmother has a plethora of scrapbooking supplies here but I would also like to branch out a little and try some other mediums with her. I am artistically challenged, myself, but love trying new things with my granddaughter. If anyone could suggest some good ideas for us, I would be eternally grateful.

    Wood carving - chain

    Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 05:39 PM [General]

This is my first blog so I hope you will forgive me if it is boring or irrelevent,  I am a beginning woodcarver.  I have carving tools and a two foot long piece of 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 cedar and a pattern for doing a wood chain.  Does anyone have experience with this, or any advice on how to procede?
