    Knitalong - Making Progress

Here are some pics from our knitalong last Thursday. Unfortunately, I spent the bulk of the knitalong taking OUT rows as opposed to making them. Somehow I miscounted and one sleeve ended up a few inches longer than the other. Oh well, at least I caught the glaring error before I started ribbing.

The shrug on the left is Jessica's, the one of the right is mine. (And in the foreground you'll see a super cool striped bag that Wendy is working on.) This weekend I caught up on the sleeve ribbing and am now ready to seam my sleeves together, though I'm not quite sure how to do that. Good thing I'll be seeing my knitalong gurus in a couple of days!

    Crocheted Blanket

I have finally finished my first crocheted project!  I have been wanting to try crochet for a while now and when a colleague of mine announced she was expecting a baby I thought it would be the perfect time to try it.  I wanted something simple so started with this blanket.  It was quite tricky at first but once you get going it is actually quite easy.  I wanted to jazz it up a little so I added some crocheted flowers to it. Let me know what you think?

I am looking forward to my first knitalong meeting with a group of colleagues on Thursday, and as I have finished my blanket I now have time to start a new project.  I will send photos of our first meeting next week.

    Baby Baby Baby

I've got 2 sisters and one very close friend who are all pregnant and due in in the next 6 months. Help! I'd really like to knit something for each of them, but I don't want the projects to consume my life. I've seen some really cute cardigan patterns. Am I wrong to assume that since they'd be really small, they'd be that much easier to make? And check out these super cute buttons I found in Wan Wan Corners etsy shop:

Does anyone have a fun (and easy) baby project that I could integrate the buttons on?

We are excited to be offering you two free projects today! Click on the Knitalong button on the Knitting + Crochet home page to download a PDF of our first Knitalong project, the Two-Tone Ribbed Shrug from Fitted Knits. Or just click here. The shrug will be my second project from Fitted Knits. Last summer I made the Split-Neckline Cap-Sleeved Tee...can't wait to wear it again when the weather warms up a bit. Have any of you made a project from Fitted Knits? Leave a comment telling us which project you made and what you thought, and we'll randomly choose someone to receive a free copy of the book.

Or maybe the suspense is killing you and you'd rather just go out and buy your own copy now?

Also check out Stefanie Japel's Web site to see what she's up to. Sometimes she gives away free patterns! Or join the Fitted Knits group on Ravelry. I just joined myself!

We also have another free project for you today, from AntiCraft, by Renée Rigdon and Zabet Stewart. The project is the Belladonna Sleeves, beautifully modeled by an F+W employee. Lovely! And perfect for spring weather. (We hope that's coming soon...) Also check out what Renée and Zabet are up to on their Web site, theanticraft.com.

    Happy Knitting!

    Knitalong Update

So, how is everyone doing on their shrug? I must say, I am feeling pretty proud about how mine is coming along. I’m about halfway through the first sleeve (only two more rows until I start ribbing for the first time!) and it’s actually starting to take shape. Below is a pic from today. The edges are all very rolly at the moment, so the body is actually a bit longer than it appears in this image.

Now, here comes my question: As you can see in my picture, the body of the shrug is being made out of a cobalt blue color. (The ribbing will all be done in a navy blue shade.) I’ve been noticing that the blue color is wearing onto my bamboo needles. Is this normal? I was planning on wearing this piece (assuming it will fit) with white shirts. Should I be concerned that the dyes from the yarns will rub off onto my other clothing?

I’ve posted this same question on our messageboard and would love to hear your experiences with the dyes in yarns.

    Thanks!
    Eileen
