Had my first shot at making jewellery, after a collection of buttons inspired me. I had a quick look at A Passion for Buttons, which was really inspiring and had simple techniques. I tried using thread, but found it a bit fiddly, so used wire instead (found some under the sink that was with some picture hanging stuff). Much easier as it holds its shape and doesn't slip out of your hand or the buttons, plus I didn't need a needle to thread it through the button holes. As I didn't have any jewellery findings, I went through my jewellery box and unearthed an old thong necklace with a lobster claw fastening - I don't wear it any more, but cut it in half and attached it to either end of the button-and-wire creation to make it into a necklace.
Might make some earrings next - it's pretty addictive!
With all the bohemian 70s patterns, nature references and bird motifs around at the moment in crafts, it was interesting to see the latest album and persona from one of my favourite bands, Goldfrapp. They've done glam rock and ethereal in the past, and have always incorporated motifs such as trees, wolves and horses. Now they have a real back to nature feel. I love the video for the current single, A&E, and the imagery they're using for their promo material. The music on this new album is really beautiful too - very relaxing and just the thing for crafting along to and feeling creative.
.
I love owls as a motif, and there is plenty around at the moment, so take your pick! Check out cool owl rubber stamps like the one below at sideshowstamps.com, and Sassafras' brilliant Owl Pals collection, including the pink and chocolate double sided paper below.
If anyone's got any groovy 'owl craft' let's see it.
Bye for now

ps just had to show you the new front page pic for Sassfras which features another current motif - a fawn - I picked it up as a poster at CHA and have it over my desk now!

Hi
Does anyone get Sewing World (sewingworldmagazine.com)? I'm off to see the Editor tomorrow to chat all things sewing, so will report back to you all on my return!
Just a quick note to say that my machine is here, and I'm raring to go (picked up the zesty lime green storage bag for my bits and pieces at CHA, from Arrow Sewing Cabinets) - just looking around for projects to get me started now - I need something quick and easy for instant gratification! Any ideas?
