In the spirit of the day after Mother's Day, I thought I'd share this cartoon that brought a giggle to my own sleepy Monday (I saw this posted on another blog, so unfortunately I can't credit the original source, but I couldn't resist sharing).
Having been away from my computer this weekend, today I've been catching up on reading all my favorite blogs, and I've loved reading so many people's touching tributes to their mothers. More often than not, it seems crafters of all types credit their moms for influencing their crafty beginnings. Did your mom, grandmother, or another maternal figure in your life have some impact on the creative person you are today? If so, post a comment below--we'd love to hear your stories!
On that note, I'll leave you with a link to this thought-provoking quiz on creativity that I spotted over on the Mixed-Media/Collage group blog. I hope you find it to be inspiring Monday reading to jump-start your week!
We have a gaggle of geese (if four or five make a gaggle) on the grounds around the office. They're not very friendly and often downright rude. They seem to know when everyone wants to go home or is in a hurry, because that is when they decide to cross the parking lot or road. I usually don't mind, and in the spring it's a pleasure to watch the brood of goslings nestled between the parents as they walk to the pond. I try to enjoy this sight while i can, because in a few weeks, I won't be able to tell the goslings from the parents. (I wish I could take credit for this super cute photo, but it's courtesy of Fox News.)
Although animals aren't expected to have gifts for their moms this weekend, we are. Even when your mom says you shouldn't have...you should. If you haven't bought anything for your mom yet, here are a few blogs and Web sites that feature projects for Mother's Day.
Mom Tattoo Cookies—Show Mom how much you love her, but in a "nothing is permanent" way.
Embroidey project by analiliav on Flickr—This doesn't seem too complicated, but so personal and unique.
Now, onto the fun for today! I was browsing through the gallery and came across quite a bit of inspiration this week. So, I thought I would post links to a few projects and talk about what inspired me in those projects. I encourage you to reply and give a link to a project that has inspired you as well.
10 Little Things I Love - What caught my eye was the way she incorporated the metal embellishment with the 10 into the title.
Lemon Tree - I could almost decorate a room in my house around this.
Beware the Ninja - This basically just tells me that I need to learn to knit well, so that I can make cool stuff like this.
Kitty Love - I really like the mix of papers and how the overall design still emphasizes the photo.
Ok - come on, don't be shy. Share what has inspired you lately!
Just a quick reminder that we offer free projects and book excerpts every week. This week you can learn how to transfer images to fabric from the authors of The Painted Quilt, Linda and Lara Kempshall. Click here for more information.
Ok - so we've been talking a lot about what inspires us, but more specifically, what inspires you? We really want to hear about any websites, artists, stores, etc. that get your creative juices flowing. I'll list a few of my inspirational sites to get you started.
www.printpattern.blogspot.com - I have been addicted to this site for a few years now. From decorating my home to working on my crafts, I'm constantly inspired by the colors and prints she features.
www.urbanoutfitters.com - I almost worry that I'm too "midwest" for a house decorated completely in UO, but a girl can dream can't she?
www.heroarts.com/blogs - Hero Arts is a fun stamp company that has recently introduced a new blog and they show some really neat tutorials. It's totally worth checking out!
So - here's the challenge. Post your favorite sites for inspiration and at the end of the week (May 9th to be very specific) I will draw a name and someone will win a free copy of Caffeine for the Creative Mind.
