It’s officially getting to be spring here in Ohio—which is to say that with one day being 40 degrees and the next being 70, we find ourselves shivering glumly over a mug of steaming coffee one morning only to be greeted the next by brilliantly blooming trees, seemingly transformed overnight.
This transitional period is the perfect time for spring cleaning. Opening windows for the first time in months is good for the soul. It’s a time of sifting through closets to fill paper bags with seldom-worn clothing to donate to charity. Shaking out rugs and washing blankets for storage. Organizing kitchen cabinets, wiping out the fridge and then whipping up a fresh batch of strawberry shortcake to celebrate. And, of course, while taking stock of one’s nest, it’s only natural to have a sudden urge to spruce up your home décor, too. Suddenly everything seems as if it should be fresh, and who can argue with that?
Here on the inspiration/creativity blog, we’ll be spending the week doing a little spring cleaning of our own, freeing our creative minds from clutter with some nods to all things organization and decoration.

My favorite design and home décor blogs are constantly including ways you can do it yourself—and it’s amazing what you can find at the intersection of design and craft. A virtually universal staff favorite here at MyCraftivity is Design*Sponge, which has no shortage of inspiration for home décor projects ranging in ambition level from stretching fabric to refinishing a room—and regular how-to posts share the love. I especially like the before-and-after reader spotlights like this one, shown above. They make you feel like, with a little ingenuity, you can do anything.

Decor8 is another that never fails to inspire. My favorite thing about this blog is its regularly generous offering of international trends and finds—particularly Dutch and Scandinavian décor. Décor8 founder Holly Becker travels overseas part of the year, and her more-than-daily blog posts allow those of us with wanderlust to live vicariously through her. She also puts together wonderful photo compilations, like this one:

What does your spring cleaning look like? Broom in hand, do you find yourself imagining new home décor projects as you work? We’d love for you to leave a comment and share your favorite ideas here.
Happy spring,
Jessica
