    Thanks for the needles

    Hey Katy,

Thanks for the way cool acrylic needles. I'm going to buy some chunky yarn this weekend and start knitting a purse for spring. I think I can handle that. Maybe a pink and white mixture.

Anybody have any suggestions on what I can do with mosaics? i went to the craft store and there are all kinds of neat glass and ceramic pieces along with plastic forms to lay them in but I don't know what to cover. Maybe a serving tray, but like who needs that?

Do I really want to knit?

In a weak moment of domestivity, I found my bag of yarn and needles and dragged it into the living room Sunday afternoon. I figured I would try knitting again while the guys at my house watched the Super Bowl game.

It was a good idea. Except the game was so exciting, I never did pick up the yarn. But I have not given up hope.

i've knit blankets and scarves in the past, but I knit too tight. I thought larger needles would help, but they didn't. I even took a knitting class. The instructor suggested i have a glass of wine to loosen up. Heck, I had a whole bottle. My knitting wasn't any better, but at least I didn't care.

If anyone has suggestions on a better way to hold the yarn, or if metal needles are better than wooden, I'd appreciate it. Knitting is supposed to be relaxing, but for me, it's a battle. And don't get me started about crocheting. That was a disaster.

    I am a blank canvas

OK, I lied. I am not really crafty. The last thing I cross-stitched was when I was in the hospital after my second son was born. And I've got three sons now. And the oldest is married.

Oh, well. Between work and raising kids there hasn't been a lot of time to create. Unless you call making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches creating. Sometimes I would make a smiley face with the jelly. And more than once i dyed the mashed potatoes green just for fun.

With the youngest ready to go to college next year, I will have time on my hands. No more football games, basketball games, baseball games and musicals to attend. And since I don't just want tos it ont he couch and grow roots, I figure I need to dust off the crafty part of my brain and do something.

I kind of like the idea of making jewelry. I was pretty good with PlayDough when the kids were little. And decorating clay pots for Boy Scouts was a lot of fun. Once we used craft paint and once we made mosaic designs. That was fun, but a little messy. And how many mosaic coasters can you use?

So, I will be looking for encouragement and inspiration. It's kind of exciting.
