    Denim Notebook Free Sewing Project

    Friday, July 4, 2008, 08:54 AM [General]

Are you a sewer who likes to papercraft? Or a papercrafter who likes to sew? Then this week’s free project is for you!

This week’s free sewing project blends two distinct but closely tied worlds: papercrafting and sewing. It’s a small paper-filled notebook made from two back pockets from a pair of jeans and uses scraps and pieces of other fabrics as accents. I love that it’s a small project that goes quickly, and it’s functional and cute to boot. A perfect combination!

The project comes from Sew Easy Papercrafting by Rebekah Meier. In this book, you’ll learn:
    *   Easy techniques for incorporating the beauty and texture of fabric into projects with minimal sewing
    *   Simple hand-embroidery stitches you can master in minutes
    *   Clever ways to combine fabric and paper with stunning results

Clever! What a great use for old jeans! I was surprised to see the title of this post because I just recently posted some pictures of a denim notebook cover that my children's embroidery class will be doing this summer at my local library. It's on my website www.hookedonneedles.com if you want to check it out. I actually thought about cutting up old jeans to make them, but decided that the denim might be too thick for the children to work with as beginners and they might get frustrated, so I purchased a yard of lightweight denim at my local fabric store. I love denim anyway and love the way these scrapbooked back pockets look. How creative!

Great project, Mary Grace! And the lightweight denim will be a lot easier for young sewers. Let us know how the kids do with it!

Really cute project - would've liked to have gotten it. A day and a half is a rather short time to have the project available tho. I didn't make it here in time. :(
