I love a good tote. One with lots of room. And perfect-sized pockets for all the things that I want to tote around. As sewers, we know the best way to get that good tote is to make it ourselves. So here, kind reader, is a tote project just for you.

It comes from the book Quilted Bags and Totes by Denise Clason. The distinctive designs, diverse fabrics, easy-to-follow techniques featured in this spectacularly illustrated guide give you the techniques and inspiration to create your own stylish—yet practical—bags. Inside you will find, a diverse selection of casual, working, dressy and sporty bags, more than 175 detailed color photos and illustrations that show each detail and full-size tissue paper patterns.

    Am I sitting comfortably?!

Hi - Jen here again! Am recovering from a weekend painting my kitchen chairs (or at least sanding, cleaning and priming them). When does the fun coloured paint bit begin!? Anyway, while picking out paint colours (pale blue and green) my mind naturally drifted to fabric - how could I incorporate some? So thought I'd make some cushion covers and add comfy padding to the seats. There are lots of slipcover and cushion projects about, so started by flicking through Custom Slip Covers Made Easy and Slipcover Style. I think cushions might be the best way to go, adding ties to keep them on the chairs and maybe some cute covered buttons.

Well, I'm off soon to start on the painting bit (finally), which will give me more time to dream of fabric . . .

Hi here are some simple ones that I have done lately. I tried to find a scarf that I made for someone but can't at this time. This fabric was purchased at $1.00 a yard from WalMart when they were selling out. I find pictures I like in black and white and then trace them. I don't have my other computer hooked up with photo editing software at this time. I search through coloring pages and then trace them on the fabric and then I will embroider them. You will see 2 unfinished hankies or scarfs for furniture that I wil sew another side to and then lace around it. Then I adorne the lace with colored thread making roses and leaves to give it a fancy look. I hope you enjoy these pics. The pillowcase didn't take long to make and was a lot of fun tracing and picking through my threads as if they were crayons as I always call them my box of crayons. I have so many colors and I am always looking for more. I bought most of them at WalMart also when they stopped handling the embroidery and sewing materials. The threads were only 10 cents a piece and I purchased about 200 or more at that time. I just love finding bargains and making things for people. To see the look on their faces when they see that you have made them something that no one else has, is just the most wonderful gift of all. I have lots more ideas if anyone is interested. Thanks for writing back.

Thanks for the comment on my birdie wall hanging. I've really used that fabric in many, many projects. It started as a lining for a felted purse I made, then the wall hanging. I'm now using it to line a coin purse I'm making from a pair of ruined jeans. I guess I bought too much fabric, but it's fun to see how many projects I can make with it.
