Frisket Film Mask Free Scrapbooking Project

Tuesday, July 1, 2008, 10:09 AM EST [General]

This frisket film mask technique—a wonderful combination of clean lines and messy paint—is one of my favorites from Scraptastic!

Frisket film (which is clear, water-resistant and self-adhesive) allows the freedom of messy painting on scrapbook pages, while maintaining clean edges on various designs and shapes. Frisket film is easy to cut, so you can mask out any design or shape. Plus, painting creates a subtle texture and uniquely artistic look for layouts. Once you’ve masked and painted, try adding additional texture with hand embroidery, as author Ashley Calder did on her layout (shown here).

Scraptastic! offers 50 great ideas for infusing your scrapbook layouts with exciting new techniques. In Ashley Calder’s debut book, she teaches you ways to take your projects to the next level using innovative ideas for creating playful and artistic pages. You'll find 50 illustrated techniques including:
    *watercolor painting
    *gold leafing
    *stamping
    *embroidery
    *paper piercing
    *collage and more!
Whether you’re an art novice or a design veteran, let Scraptastic! be your guide to discovering the messy, sparkly, touchy-feely, snazzy world of scrapbooking.

    Free Paper Journal Project--June 24, 2008

Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 10:22 AM EST [General]

In the midst of tackling crazy schedules, trying to complete albums, making gifts and doing all those other tasks that make up our days, it’s nice to take some time to create just for ourselves. This homemade paper journal is the perfect personal project to create.

How does your typical day unfold? The common events that move your days along appear like snapshots in this little accordion journal. Make it anew from time to time to see how a typical day for you changes over time.

For this and other  self-reflecting projects, check out Visual Chronicles by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino, the no-fear guide that shows you how to express your inner self through art and words. Click here to buy the book in the mycraftivity.com shop. (Click here to buy it in the U.K. shop.)

Free Papercrafts Project: June 17, 2008

Tuesday, June 17, 2008, 09:02 AM EST [General]

Try this “fauxto” booth strip technique from Journal Revolution.

Fake photo booth photos are a great way to use up poorly framed photos, random photos, or blurred photos. Or use the technique for a series of similar photos (like all those shots of the Eiffel Tower from your trip to Paris). Or just use the look ‘cause it is so darn cool.

For details about this project and other creative and challenging ideas and techniques, check out Journal Revolution by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino. In the book, you’ll learn how to cut through the daily clutter in their minds to access deeper emotions, creatively express a wide range of moods and boldly record their deepest secrets.
