Bring new life to dominoes, marbles, vintage letters and more with this found-art necklace by Sally Jean Alexander. Here she describes finding the objects for this necklace featured in her book Pretty Little Things:
If we could have a bowl of found objects, it would have to be a crystal one where the light can shine through. It would also have to be a chipped one, as only something unwanted by others could coddle small objects so tenderly. Piled in the bowl would be a single granny earring—the clip-on type—where its mate long ago lost. Maybe a small metal pill box, rusty with age. A domino found in the seat cushions of the sofa, long after the game it belonged to was sold for 5 cents at that garage sale you had last summer. Here is the pretty bowl, one-of-a- kind, two-of-a-kind, and handfuls of tiny treasures await their next adventure in life. It is with the objects in my bowl (not crystal—but definitely tarnished and bent silver) that I discovered the little treasures that found new life around my neck.
