Golden Organza Angel Bag free cross stitch project

Monday, June 30, 2008, 04:37 PM [Free Cross Stitch Project]

Angel cross stitch is incredibly popular, and this week's free project offers a real beauty.

This organza gift bag features a lovely harp-playing angel designed by Maria Diaz; it's from Cross Stitch Angels. The finished size measures 3-1⁄2" x 5" (8.7cm x 13cm) stitched on 18-count gold Lurex Aida. This design would make a beautiful holiday card, not to mention a tree ornament or gift attachment. (It's not too early to get started--Christmas is less than 6 months away!)

Cross Stitch Angels is an angelic collection of stitched creations:

    * includes full-colour charts and easy-to-follow instructions for creating finished projects

    * features celebration designs for Christmas, weddings, births, and birthdays

    * projects include pictures, wall hangings, cards, trinket pots, door hangers, pot holders, pincushions, scented sachets, bags, cake bands, and tree decorations

*includes a charming Victorian-style angel alphabet for stitchers to create their own magical messages

June 23, 2008 free cross stitch project

Here in the states, Independence Day is only a week from this Friday (I can already here firecrackers in my neighborhood). If you're in a mood to show your patriotic colors, this week's project is just for you.

"Let Freedom Ring" features a charming patriotic angel (designed by Joan Elliott) from Quick to Stitch Cross Stitch Cards. Worked on 18-count Fiddler's Light Aida, the finished design measures 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" (9 cm x 9 cm). This is a perfect size for a card insert for friends or family (or send one to remember and inspire someone in the military on America's birthday). Worked on a larger count fabric, this angel would make a great mini sampler to bring out on those occasions that call for a touch of red, white, and blue. Worked on finer fabric or silk gauze, "Let Freedom Ring" could make a wonderful magnet or brooch.

June 16, 2008 free cross stitch project

Tuesday, June 17, 2008, 05:18 PM [Free Cross Stitch Project]

Once again I'm a day late with the free cross stitch project. I was on vacation (lovely time in Virginia Beach, with a couple of nights in the Shenandoah Valley--really beautiful).

This great project for the cross stitcher in your life is from Crafting Cross Stitch Cards by Sue Cook. "The World's Greatest Cross-Stitcher" is a card designed to look like a floss sorter--how appropriate (and cute). Stitched on 14-count cream Aida, the finished design measures 4" x 3-3/4" (10cm x 9.6cm); however, by using iron-on adhesive to fix the fabric and stitches, you can cut out the design for a special effect. See the instructions for creating and assembling this unique cross stitch card project. (It would make an adorable mini sampler, too.)

Is there an"angel" in your life who also happens to enjoy sewing and needlework? Brighten his or her day with this cute card from Cross Stitch Angels. Designed by Helen Philipps, the "Sewing Angel Card" pattern features an angel with patchwork wings, dangling a string of thread spools. The design measures 4" x 2-1/4" (10cm x 5.5cm) finished when worked on 14-count Aida. (Maybe your "angel" would enjoy a miniature cross stitch plaque of this designed, framed.)
